BEFORE YOU GO
A little planning.
A better day out.
03 / A FEW MINUTES BEFORE YOU GO
Good days start
well prepared.
A small checklist for a better start. Check each item yourself using the current official information.

Your checks stay on this page. They are not a safety assessment.

Read the route, not just the distance.
A short route can include steep stairs, exposed rock or a demanding descent. Published times describe a particular route. Stops, weather, queues and your pace can change the day.
Keep the route direction clear.
A one-way distance does not include your return. A circuit returns to its start. Do not double a published time and treat it as a verified return estimate. Check the route-specific source and plan your own margin.
Keep official information close.
Use the source links on each trail page for the responsible authority. National park notices do not cover every city or coastal path. For your date, check entry limits, closures, reservation requirements and any weather warnings.
Leave the place as you found it.
Stay on permitted paths, take your litter with you, avoid disturbing wildlife and respect local signs and other walkers.
